Crystal-effect pendant light: Bloom by Ferruccio Laviani

One might think it impossible for a light with a lampshade made of clear plastic to mimic the glow and sparkle of a crystal chandelier. The Bloom pendant light, however, proves otherwise. The lampshade of the light is made up of countless tiny flowers crafted from transparent plastic. The light that escapes from this elliptical, enclosed body makes the flowers glow and creates a play of light in the surrounding space that is reminiscent of a crystal chandelier.

The Italian designer and architect Ferruccio Laviani designed the Bloom series of lights whilst working as Art Director for the Milan-based company Kartell. Kartell became renowned for its innovative plastic furniture, lighting and household items. Designer pieces, such as the K 1340 children’s chair, the KS 1481 lemon squeezer and the 4032 Tic Tac light, have been created on behalf of Kartell since the company was founded in 1949 and are now considered modern classics.
