Torches

Portable light, at the flick of a switch

You’re never truly in the dark when you have a torch.

Whether you’re rummaging through the loft, camping with friends or making sure that the shadow at the foot of the garden was a bush swaying in the breeze and not an intruder, our range of torches give you the power of portable light, at the flick of a switch (or the turn of a crank handle).

What types of torches are there?

Modern torches not only provide a high standard of lighting, but they come with additional functions too.

Like?

Where to start!?

Many modern brand-name torches are not only water and weatherproof, they’re also impact and shockproof, which means they can withstand all types of weather and won’t break when dropped.

Some models are incredibly lightweight, weighing in at around 100 grams, while others come with rubberised handles for extra grip in extreme conditions or ‘carry loops’, which you can attach to a belt or rucksack strap.

Our torches are available in all sizes and shapes, including our compact flat torch which, at just 10 cm in length, fits into any glove compartment or school/work bag.

And to make sure we’ve covered all bases, we can’t leave out our camping lantern, which allows you to pitch, set up or pack away your camping gear, long after the sun has set.

What type of batteries do your torches need?

Our torches can be operated with either standard or rechargeable batteries.

The standard batteries in our torches are AA or D, and 3LR12 for our flat torches.

The necessary batteries are indicated on the product pag and can also be purchased directly.

Torches with rechargeable batteries are popular for those who love camping as the charging dock doubles as a power bank for recharging smartphones, tablets, etc.

Pretty handy for when you’ve had enough of campfire sausages and fancy a takeaway pizza, right?

We also stock dynamo torches with a crank handle attached, which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy when turned. They’re easy to use and provide light at all times - removing the worry of your batteries going flat when you go looking for what’s sneaking about outside your tent at 3 o’clock in the morning.

What does “lumen” mean in a torch?

Lumen (or luminous flux) is the brightness of the light source and applies to all domestic and outdoor lights and torches.

As modern torches often use LEDs as a light source in addition to krypton light bulbs, battery life can last up to 10 hours. And in the case of camping lanterns, up to over 30 hours.

In terms of luminous flux, around 300-600 lumens is achievable with high-quality Cree LEDs. And, depending on the model, the light range can be up to several hundred metres in many torches.
