Above Pendant Light – a cohesive expression of minimalist aesthetics

The name of the Above pendant light (above: English for ‘up’) refers to the opening at the top of the lampshade, through which not only is the light from the bulb directed towards the ceiling, but the visual form of the light remains intact whether it is switched on or off.

The design, which is highly aesthetic in its outstanding simplicity, is the work of Danish designer Mads Odgård, who is committed to minimalism in his work and operates according to the principle of creating intuitive products that give equal importance to function, form and quality. He has succeeded in this with the Above pendant light, whose pleasant light is well reflected by the matt white-painted interior of the aluminium shade and emitted very evenly downwards, whilst at the same time escaping discreetly through the upper opening, thus creating an incomparable ambience.

A pendant light from Louis Poulsen that fully embodies his principle of ‘form follows function’. In keeping with this principle, light is integrated into the designs in such a way that the resulting products not only embody formal aesthetics, but the quality of the light ultimately determines the form.
