Original 1227 Floor Lamp: a versatile light source for living and working spaces
In 2012, the Anglepoise® range was expanded to include this floor lamp, which resembles the upper section of an Anglepoise® table lamp. The difference lies in the fact that the flexible part of the light – featuring the articulated arm with a constant-spring mechanism – has been complemented by a straight lamp base, giving it the appearance of a conventional floor lamp. However, this is only true visually; functionally, the Anglepoise® retains its great flexibility and balanced stability. A floor lamp that is ideal as a reading lamp, for example in the living room next to the sofa or next to an armchair.
The original Anglepoise® design was created by the English industrial designer George Carwardine, who, in 1930, applied his expertise from automotive design – where he was responsible for shock absorber development – to the design of a work light. The Anglepoise® work light was fitted with special springs that mimicked the movement of a human arm.
