What characterizes a modern table lamp?
Stylish and timeless, that's the look of modern-style table lamps. Clear lines and reduced shapes**, combined with refined details, shape the range. White, black and silver are the perfect colors to match any interior.
However, designers had already mastered similar design guidelines in the past. That's why some table lamps from the past still look so modern today. Examples include the Birdy table lamp from 1952 and the Wagenfeld table lamp from 1923/24.
What functions can modern table lamps have?
For a table lamp, modern also means offering more than the rest. This can relate to the design - or to the additional functions. Think carefully about what you want to use your table lamp for and then decide specifically on a product that, for example:
the cell phone can be charged via USB connection on the light,
has a Qi charging surface,
enables adjustment of the color temperature depending on the situation,
allows different lighting scenarios via RGB color change,
can be dimmed via touch dimmer to make it really cozy in the evening.
Which light source is best for modern table lamps?
For a table lamp to be modern, it does not necessarily (but increasingly often) have to be operated with LED. Either with an LED light source in a conventional socket or with a permanently installed LED board. Because with the latter, futuristic designs are possible!
Apart from the design aspect, LEDs save up to 90 % energy compared to incandescent lamps and have an above-average service life.
How many lumens does a table lamp need?
It all depends on the intended use. A good additional light source, e.g. for reading a book**, manages with 300-400 lumens. For desk lighting, on the other hand, it should be in the region of 1,000 lumens in order to be able to perform the various visual tasks.
By the way: We no longer calculate in watts**, but in lumens. This is because lumen provides information about the brightness of modern light sources - and not just the energy consumption in watts.
