Kartell FL/Y pendant light, sky blue, Ø 52 cm

Versatile: FL/Y designer hanging light with LED – designed by Ferruccio Laviani

The FL/Y hanging light from Kartell is a true all-rounder: whether in the kitchen, the dining room or the living room – a light with the design and functionality of the FL/Y can be used anywhere. The lampshade is neither a sphere nor a hemisphere; the cut is made slightly below the centre. This ensures that the light is concentrated even more effectively and the area below is illuminated more precisely. The many versions of the FL/Y, with their plastic lampshades – a given for a Kartell product – are colourful and versatile.

Plastic is the material that defines Kartell’s design pieces – and, by extension, the company itself. Since its foundation in 1949, the designers working for Kartell have been exploring how to make the most of plastic and how best to shape and process it so that functionality and aesthetics harmonise perfectly. Among the Milan-based company’s best-known design pieces are, for example, the K 1340 children’s chair and the KS 1481 lemon squeezer. In the field of lighting, the Model 4006 by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni from 1959 and the Tic Tac series serve as flagship products and are highly recognisable.
