From 1959: Retro hanging light Kuplat - Finnish design The timelessness of a design concept is revealed when the resulting product is still being produced and sold many decades after the initial idea. The Kuplat hanging light is one such example. The Finn Yki Nummi (1925-1984) designed the light in 1959. Today, it is still being produced - or is being produced again - by the Finnish lighting manufacturer Innolux. The hanging light consists of two acrylic shades of different sizes that are inserted into each other. The inner shade is white, making it an ideal diffuser that creates a softly scattered light. The manufacturer Innolux combines two types of lights in its range: those by contemporary Finnish designers and those that can already be described as design classics today, namely designs from the 1950s and 1960s. Overall, these lights represent the spectrum of the Scandinavian design world.
