Retro Kuplat pendant light from 1959 You realise how timeless a design is when the product is still being produced many decades after its initial release. This is the case with the Kuplat pendant light by Finnish designer Yki Nummi (1925-1984). He developed Kuplat in 1959 and today the light is produced and sold by the Finnish lighting manufacturer Innolux, which brings together lights from two centuries: design classics from the 1950s and 1960s on the one hand and products by contemporary designers on the other. The lights all have one thing in common: they represent Scandinavian design. Kuplat, Finnish for "bubble", consists of two acrylic shades, the inner one always being white and the outer one transparent. The white lampshade acts as a diffuser, creating softly diffused light.
