The series of lights was created by French designer Ionna Vautrin for the Italian manufacturer Foscarini and is reminiscent of traditional Japanese lanterns in its shape and design. These paper and bamboo lanterns, which are typically hung outside restaurants as illuminated signs or in front of houses for good luck, were the inspiration for Ionna Vautrin to design the Chouchin luminaire series, which consists of several different forms. The reverse version, in which only the decorative Ring is painted in colour and the rest of the lampshade is made of opal white Glas, provides diffuse light all around and direct lighting downwards. The aim of French designer Ionna Vautrin is to create objects that are immediately understandable yet surprising, combining industrial and poetic elements. The Chouchin pendant light is extremely versatile and can be used in private living spaces as well as in restaurants, cafés or hotel lobbies. The combination of different forms and colours in particular lends the room a special charm.
