Stunning ‘Flechtwerk’ hanging light with 3D printing – made in Germany

Hardly any name could be more apt than ‘Flechtwerk’, as the lampshade of this designer hanging light appears to be nothing other than woven work. The structure resembles a chequerboard, with light and dark areas alternating; however, strictly speaking, the light areas are actually gaps that reveal the interior of the lampshade and allow the light to shine through. Of course, the focus here is not necessarily on brightness, but rather on the lighting effects created, which are not only visible on the lampshade – manufactured in Germany – but are also projected onto the surrounding surfaces, creating a beautiful, even interplay of light and shadow.

A design such as that of this hanging light is, in fact, only made possible by the use of a 3D printer, which is employed in the manufacture of every lampshade and allows for this unusual, striking pattern.
