Natural Flair Sola pendant light with bamboo shade The Sola pendant light has the same geometry as the lights in the Floral and Coral series, which were also created by designer David Trubridge. In his designs, the English-born designer, who now lives and works in New Zealand, draws on the beauty of his surroundings in his new home country. As an advocate of Oko and slow design, the creator of wonderful furniture and lights favours the use of sustainably sourced materials and low CO2 consumption in the processing and transport of his work. This is why the Sola pendant light, whose lampshade consists of numerous elements made of bamboo veneer, is delivered assembled. Sola is part of David Trubridge's Ikarus installation in Milan, based on the Icarus legend about a boy who flew too high and got too close to the sun. Here, Sola embodies the sun and the individual forms look a bit like solar flares. When the lighting is switched on, it not only creates an aesthetic lighting effect, but also a decorative play of shadows in the surroundings. The complete Ikarus installation is now in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
