Discovery LED pendant light changes its appearance from illuminated to unilluminated

The design of the Discovery light is defined by the lightness and apparent weightlessness it conveys. Another striking visual feature is its changing appearance, depending on whether it is switched on or off. When unilluminated, only the ring-shaped aluminium profile is visible. When the LEDs embedded around the inside of this profile are lit, the light emission makes the otherwise transparent plastic disc inside the ring visible. To produce such a delicate and lightweight pendant light, the makers and designers sought advice from bicycle manufacturers. Only in this way was it possible to produce such a thin and lightweight profile and create an almost invisible light.

The Discovery pendant light is dimmable using a push function via a separate button. This requires a 5-core connection cable.

Discovery was designed by Ernesto Gismondi, founder of the Italian design company Artemide, which has been based near Milan since its establishment in 1960. Today, the company consists of a global distribution network, its own production facilities, glass factories and an innovation and research centre. The lights, which are designed for Artemide by internationally renowned designers, enjoy great popularity and recognition around the world and have already won numerous awards.
