Life and work
Alongside icons of Danish design such as Vilhelm Lauritzen and Poul Henningsen, Verner Panton has made a name for himself as a visionary designer - through his uncompromising originality, his courage to use colour and his experimentation far from the mainstream.
Verner Panton was born 1926 in Denmark. After studying at the Technical College in Odense and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he initially worked as an assistant to the great architect Arne Jacobsen. However, his urge to go his own way - beyond the prevailing functionalism of the time - became apparent early on.
With a revolutionary view of design, Panton understood light not only as a functional element, but as a means of arousing emotions and transforming spaces into moods. He regarded the room as a total work of art in which colour, form, furniture and lighting merge into a sensual unity. "You sit more comfortably on a colour you like", Panton once said - a sentence that aptly describes his deeply emotional view of design.
His style was characterised by organic forms, bold colours and the use of new materials, which he combined playfully and experimentally. He achieved his international breakthrough with the legendary Panton Chair made of acrylic ester-styrene-acrylonitrile, which he developed in 1967 together with the furniture manufacturer Vitra. This design catapulted him to the forefront of Danish modernism - and marked the beginning of an era in which design became an expression of joie de vivre.
Panton also set new standards as an interior designer: he designed the Hotel Astoria in Trondheim in 1960 and the Gruner & Jahr publishing house in Hamburg in 1974 - spaces that became immersive experiences thanks to their intense colours, psychedelic shapes and visionary lighting concepts.
His influence extends far beyond his lifetime. Verner Panton is regarded as one of the great innovators of "Mid-Century Modern" - but with a psychedelic twist that makes him unmistakable. His designs still characterise interior styling, pop culture and modern furniture design to this day. His works are exhibited in numerous museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
In 1998, Panton's last exhibition "Light and Colour" took place in Kolding, Denmark, at the Trapholt Museum of Modern Art - a tribute to his love of light and colour. The luminous nuances in which his Panthella lights still shine today also come from this exhibition.
Today, his legacy lives on: VERPAN is the exclusive licencee of many Verner Panton designs and continues to produce his iconic lights with the same dedication with which they were once designed. Every Panton light is therefore not just a lighting object, but a piece of design history - visionary, sensual and timeless.

Verner Panton Panthella series
In 1971, Verner Panton presented a masterpiece of atmospheric lighting with the Panthella - a light that is still considered an icon of Scandinavian mid-century modern design today. With its organic shape and glare-free, soft light, the Panthella combines functionality and aesthetics in a unique way.
The series comprises several variants, including the flexible Panthella Portable, which can be positioned anywhere in the room thanks to its rechargeable battery. Each light consists of an acrylic shade that gently diffuses the light and a base that supports the light stably. The Panthella is available in several colour variants so that it blends perfectly into both modern and classic interiors. Whether on the bedside table, sideboard, in the reading corner or as an atmospheric eye-catcher in a lounge - its iconic silhouette fills every room with atmosphere and embodies Panton's visionary approach of light as an emotional Raumgestalt.

Verner Panton Fun Series
The Fun series by Verner Panton, designed in 1964, is a shining symbol of his playful, sensual design philosophy. Often affectionately referred to as a shell lamp or Mother of Pearls, this iconic family of lamps combines genuine mother-of-pearl with shiny metal elements - a combination that has fascinated design lovers around the world for decades.
The design of the Fun lights is as sophisticated as it is poetic: delicate mother-of-pearl plates hang from filigree metal rings and, depending on the model, form artful cascades that refract the light in soft reflections. The draught causes the discs to vibrate softly, creating not only a visual but also an acoustic experience - light, sound and movement merge to create an almost magical atmosphere.
The Fun series includes pendant, floor and table lamps that prove to be real eye-catchers with a sensual, luxurious touch in the living room and bedroom as well as in elegant hotel lobbies or lounge areas.
