Why is pool lighting so important?
Interplay of ambience, design & safetyThe right lighting around the pool combines mood, safety and design in an impressive way: It sets stylish accents, creates an inviting atmosphere and shows off the water perfectly at night - whether with colorful accents or elegant play of light in warm white. At the same time, it improves orientation in the dark and increases safety - whether on paths, around the pool or along the terrace. This not only enhances the appearance of your outdoor area, but also optimizes its functionality.

Floating pool lighting
These pool lamps go swimmingFor kids and adults alike, the cool water in the pool and above-ground pool is the number one place to cool off in summer. Floating pool lights such as balls and ducks are a must. When these not only float on the surface of the water, but also glow in bright colors, nothing stands in the way of fun. Special lighting accents for the pool are created by solar lamps with IP code IP68, which can either float on the water or be placed at the edge of the pool.

Underwater pool lighting
Spotlights for light under waterA pool is not only more inviting, but also safer the better it is lit. Spotlights installed in the floor or wall of the pool are the right choice for good visibility of the water surface. Thanks to protection class IP68, they can remain permanently under water without being damaged. The maximum depth of the water into which the spot may be installed must also be taken into account. These can be found in the data sheet in the store.

Pool edge lighting
LED strips & recessed spotlights around the poolIlluminating the edge of the pool with LED strips creates a pleasant setting for the cool water. In addition, the edge of the pool is visually marked in the dark, making the garden safer. You can also illuminate the edge of the pool by installing recessed spotlights on the paving or path around the pool - e.g. close to a privacy screen, which will also be pleasantly illuminated. If you want less installation effort in terms of electricity, you can also attach solar lamps around the edge of the pool.

Colorful lighting design of the pool
Pool lighting with atmosphereWhen selecting lamps and lights for in and around the pool, it is important to pay close attention to the light color:
- Warm white (<3,300 K) has a cozy and homely effect and creates a lounge-like atmosphere. The lower the Kelvin number, the more similar the light color is to candlelight.
- Neutral white (3,300-5,300 K) is suitable for areas around the pool that need to be safe to walk on - in addition to steps and paths, also the technical zone. In addition, cool white brings out the true colors of water, pools and plants without any color cast.
- RGB LEDs (multicolour bulbs) provide bright light colours. With smart lights, they can be selected as an option - for a pool party or a cozy lounge atmosphere, for example. Smart lights with RGBW function come with a selection of color effects and color change programs and can be controlled by remote control or smartphone app, depending on the model.
Tip: Colorful accents can also be set around the pool - for example with smart garden lights or colored LED spots in the surrounding area.

Pool lamps must be particularly waterproof and therefore require a high IP code. For use directly in water - for example, installed in the pool or as a floating light - an IP code of at least IP68 is required. This guarantees permanent waterproofness. Make sure you observe the maximum depth specified by the manufacturer. Lights at the edge of the pool that occasionally come into contact with water require at least IP67. This IP code is sufficient to protect the light against short-term immersion and heavy splashing water. Lower IP codes are not suitable near the pool.

The right pool lighting depends heavily on the type of pool: while permanently installed in-ground pools allow integrated underwater spots, mobile and flexible lights such as floating LEDs are ideal for suspension systems. Natural pools require restrained, near-natural lighting so as not to disturb the flora and fauna, while whirlpools require atmospheric, often colorful lighting effects. Waterproof lights (IP68), safe installation and glare-free placement - tailored to use and design - are always important.

For uniform and harmonious illumination, it is advisable to position the pool lamps symmetrically - ideally opposite each other on the long sides of the pool walls. One or more spots can be installed per meter to suit your taste. For particularly narrow or small pools, one-sided alignment is often sufficient. Lamps near the bottom or in the pool floor create exciting plays of light in the water, but are more suitable for accentuation and should be combined with wall spotlights.

There is a large selection of solar-powered lights for on and around the pool. Your built-in battery charges when exposed to sunlight. You don't have to swim to operate them: Many pool lights work by remote control.

The advantage of LED pool lighting is that it requires very little maintenance: LEDs have a very long service life. LED is also energy-saving and the only technology that enables RGB color changes and smart homes.
