Verner Panton's VP Globe – designer pendant light from Denmark
In the 1960s and 1970s, Verner Panton created a family of lights comprising a series of spherical pendant lights, all constructed according to a similar principle. The outer shell consists of a transparent acrylic sphere that reveals the inner workings of the light. Inside is a system of reflectors. In VP Globe, one of the models in this family of lights, there are a total of five aluminium reflectors in white, blue and orange, which are responsible for directing the light. They are arranged in such a way that the light escapes mainly to the sides and less upwards or downwards. This makes the pendant light particularly suitable for providing light in a room.
Born on Funen in 1926 and deceased in 1998, Verner Panton is considered one of the most famous Danish designers of the last century. He achieved worldwide fame primarily through his furniture, e.g. the Panton Chair from the 1960s, and his lights. He had a great enthusiasm for plastic as a material and for bold colours. His designs are now being reproduced by the Danish company VERPAN. Each light is engraved with his name and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
