Verner Panton's VP Globe - designer pendant light from Denmark In the sixties and seventies of the last century, Verner Panton created a family of luminaires comprising a series of spherical pendant lights, all based on a similar principle. The outer shell consists of a transparent acrylic sphere that reveals the inner workings of the light. Inside is a system of reflectors. In the case of VP Globe, one of the models in this luminaire family, a total of five aluminium reflectors in white, blue and orange are responsible for directing the light. They are arranged in such a way that the light escapes mainly to the sides and less upwards or downwards. Verner Panton, who was born on Funen in 1926 and died in 1998, is regarded as one of the most famous Danish designers of the last century. He achieved worldwide fame primarily through his furniture, e.g. the Panton Chair from the 1960s, and his lights. He had a great enthusiasm for plastic as a material and for bold colours. His designs are now being produced again by the Danish company VERPAN. Each light is engraved with his name and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
