The original design dates back to 1955, when Arn Jacobsen (1902-1971) developed the ceiling light for the Munkegård School in Gentofte, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The legendary school was one of the first single-storey schools in Denmark at the time and is considered one of Arn Jacobsen's most important architectural works. However, Arne Jacobsen not only designed buildings, but also attached great importance to their interiors, so he also designed wallpaper, cutlery, furniture and lighting fixtures. When switched on, the Munkegaard LED recessed ceiling light, which is equipped with modern LED lighting technology, gives the impression that the lampshade is floating directly below the ceiling. This impression is deceptive, as it is a recessed light and the glass is framed by a metal surround.
