OE Quasi - a geometric Meisterwerke by Ólafur Elíasson For the artist Ólafur Elíasson, it is important to find new geometric forms that counterbalance the orthogonal shapes that take centre stage in contemporary art, architecture and design. In the OE Quasi pendant light, which he designed for the manufacturer Louis Poulsen, he combines two unconventional forms with the human need for a good quality of light. The outer aluminium frame has the shape of an icosahedron - a body with 20 triangular surfaces. There are 12 LEDs in the corners of the frame, which are connected to light guides on the inside. The light from the LEDs shines inwards onto a reflector part made of polycarbonate in the form of a dodecahedron, which consists of 12 pentagonal surfaces. This reflects the light beams in all directions, creating a glare-free, uniform light all round. Due to the two contrasting Forms, different appearances are created depending on the perspective from which the light is viewed. In addition to his art projects, Ólafur Elíasson is also actively committed to sustainability and climate change, which is why this aspect was also an essential component in the choice of materials for the OE Quasi. For example, 90% recycled material is used for the aluminium frame and all other materials used are also recyclable.
