Inspired by silk-covered Swedish pendant lights that he wanted for his office but were too expensive for him, American designer George Nelson created this lamp back in 1947 and it was first produced in 1952. With the great ingenuity that characterized his work process, he chose a self-crosslinking plastic spray developed by the U.S. military and applied it to a lightweight, rounded steel frame to create these softly glowing shades.
