Foscarini Plass media pendant light - inspired by Venetian glass beads The unique surface and the special material of the lampshade itself make the Plass media pendant light so special. The lampshade appears to be made of Glas, but is actually made of a transparent polycarbonate that is rotationally moulded into shape. This technique allows large hollow bodies to be produced without welding. However, this creates small irregularities in the material that make each light unique and the lampshade look more like Glas. The inspiration for this came from the forms and colours of the glass beads of Venetian Tradition, while the modernity of the Plass media light comes from the use of plastic, which resembles glass without being glass. The international designer Luca Nichetto, who has studios in Venice and Stockholm, designed the Plass media light series for the Venetian manufacturer Foscarini. It reminds him of antique times, although it is made of modern materials - the perfect symbiosis.
