A rare earth super magnet is the heart and namesake of the Magneto LED floor lamp by Foscarini. This futuristic model was designed in 2011 by Giulio Iacchetti, an Italian product designer who mainly focuses on industrial design.

While the base and shaft of the Magneto floor lamp are simple and unassuming, the head harbours extraordinary superpowers. The spotlight head resembles a torch in terms of shape and light output, and its flexibility is also very similar to that of a portable light. It appears as if the spotlight is only connected to the lamp basis via the cable running upwards in the shaft. But on closer inspection, a small, inconspicuous ball can be seen between the spotlight and the shaft. However, this ball is not as inconspicuous as it seems, as it is made of rare earth elements and literally has superpowers. It is a powerful magnet that acts as a joint between the spotlight and the light base, enabling the flexible, almost unlimited alignment of the precise light beam. Ten recesses in the light frame also offer the option of connecting the spotlight to the Basis at different heights.

Magneto is a visually striking, futuristic eye-catcher that also impresses in terms of its lighting effect.
