Foscarini Chouchin Reverse 1 pendant light – a classic with an inverted colour scheme

The Chouchin series of lights from Foscarini was inspired by the varied shapes of Japanese paper lanterns. These traditional lanterns can still be seen today in restaurants and homes throughout Japan and are popular as souvenirs. French designer Ionna Vautrin drew on these lanterns to create a modern reinterpretation as a lighting fixture for contemporary living spaces, bars or restaurants.

A total of three different shapes have been created, each distinguished by its colour. Whilst the original Chouchin models feature a coloured lacquered glass shade contrasted with a white ring, the ‘Reverse’ version reverses this colour scheme. The Chouchin Reverse 1 therefore features a white satin-finished lampshade with an orange ring on the underside. Unlike the original version, the Chouchin Reverse 1 LED pendant light not only shines downwards but also radiates light into the room through the white glass shade. This creates a unique, atmospheric glow.
