Gentle light distribution with the glass pendant light PH 3 1/2-3

The PH 3 1/2-3 pendant lamp is designed by the Danish designer Poul Henningsen, who created the lamp and the unique shade in a three-shade system in 1925/26 for the Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen.

The special feature of the shade is the production of three-layered, mouth-blown opal glass, which is glossy on the upper side and matt sandblasted on the inside. This composition of the glass allows a soft and gentle light distribution in the room. In addition, Henningsen has repeatedly made calculations which have ultimately made it possible to bend and arrange the three glasses of the shade in such a way that glare-free illumination is possible. The brilliance of the shade is underlined by the high-quality finishing of the suspension with a metallized, black brass finish.

Poul Henningsen has focused his professional activity on lighting design and has pioneered light theory by investigating and optimising the relationships between light structures, shadows, reflections and light rendering. In collaboration with Louis Poulsen, he has created numerous luminaires that emit glare-free light and have a positive effect on human well-being. Louis Poulsen produces luminaires with a harmonious balance between craftsmanship and innovation and continues to apply Henningsen's pioneering work in lighting theory.
