Gatto Piccolo has relatively compact dimensions and a nice shape. The material, called Cocoon, wraps around the steel frame of the table lamp like a fine fabric shade and creates an equally even, cozy lighting effect, just like fabric shades do. The shade is not woven, as is the case with most conventional fabrics, nor does it have a knitted structure. Instead, thread after thread is laid around the frame until a fine but continuous fabric structure is created, which is finally fixed with a spray to make the material dimensionally stable and durable. If you understand this production process, then you quickly realize why the material bears this name, because you could actually think that a silkworm was at work here, spinning its cocoon.
