Although the term "bulb" is still widely used, it usually refers to a modern LED bulb with an E27 base. The E27 traditional light bulb is considered the standard socket and can be found in countless luminaire models - from the ceiling light in the living room to the table lamp in the office. Switching from traditional light bulbs to E27 LEDs is straightforward and offers tangible benefits.
In direct comparison to traditional light bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs, E27 LED bulbs impress with their high energy efficiency, long service life and direct light output without delay. In terms of appearance, many modern E27 LEDs hardly differ from their predecessors: variants, such as the E27 bulb, with visible LED filaments imitate the classic filament and are particularly suitable for open lights with a direct view of the bulb. The lumen value, not the wattage, is decisive for the light output.

The product names of many manufacturers often include a direct reference indicating the comparative values - such as "8.5-60W" for an 8.5-watt E27 LED bulb that replaces a 60-watt traditional light bulb.
The light color, specified in Kelvin (K), also has a significant influence on the lighting effect. The right color temperature depends heavily on the area of application and the desired atmosphere:

The color code on the bulb is also a helpful indicator of the light color - for example, "827" stands for a color rendering index (CRI) of 80 and a color temperature of 2,700 Kelvin, i.e. warm white light.

E27 LED bulbs are available in numerous designs - suitable for almost any light. While the thread always remains the same, the shape and design offer plenty of scope for individual lighting solutions. Choosing the right shape influences both the lighting effect and the visual impact in the room.
Overview of common designs
Classic A - The classic bulb shape, ideal for table, wall and ceiling lights. Particularly popular as a direct replacement for old traditional light bulbs.
Classic B / BW - Candle shape, straight or twisted. Often used in chandeliers or open wall lamps where the bulb is visible.
Classic P - teardrop shape, slightly more compact. Particularly suitable for smaller lights, bedside table lamps or window lighting.

Filament LEDs for an authentic traditional light bulb look
So-called filament LEDs are particularly popular. They combine modern LED technology with the classic look of the traditional light bulb - including an all-round light effect. Due to the arrangement of the filigree filaments inside, they look almost identical to conventional light bulbs, but are much more efficient and have a longer service life.
Selection according to diameter and light intensity
Depending on the light and the desired light image, diameter and lumen value also play a role. While large globe lamps with a diameter of 95 or 125 mm are more of a design element, smaller designs are ideal for functional lighting in everyday life.
In open lights, clear filament LED bulbs create targeted accents, while matt versions in closed lights provide uniform light. Colored LEDs - in red, blue or green, for example - are also available and are often used for seasonal decorations or atmospheric lighting.
E27 LED - dimmable, smart and compatible with many applications
Not every E27 LED is dimmable - if you want to adjust the brightness, you should pay attention to the corresponding instructions. Compatibility with existing dimmers is also important, as older models often do not harmonize with modern LEDs. Alternatively, there are bulbs with an integrated dimming function that are regulated by multiple switching.
There are also suitable E27 LEDs for smart home applications. They enable control via app, voice assistant or schedule - for color change, dimming or scenes, for example. Particularly practical: E27 LEDs with high switching resilience are ideal for motion detectors or frequent switching on and off, for example in the hallway or entrance area.

E27 LED bulbs are available in a wide range of variants and price ranges. Those who want reliable quality and consistent light output often opt for branded products. The best-known manufacturers include Philips, Lindby, Osram (or LEDVANCE), Arcchio and Bellalux. They offer a wide range with tested efficiency, good color rendering and a long service life.
Many E27 LED bulbs are now compatible with smart home systems such as Philips Hue. They enable convenient control via app or voice command and offer functions such as dimmable, color change and individual lighting scenarios - for a smart home made to measure.
