VL45 Radiohus hanging light – a wonderful designer lamp made of opal glass

The uniform shape of the beautiful lampshade, which is made of handblown opal glass, makes the VL45 Radiohus hanging light a light source that, even when switched off, is a decorative element for many rooms thanks to its simple beauty. The lampshade is open in the middle on the underside, so that the light is directed downwards in a concentrated manner. This creates uniform illumination, for example above a table in the living room or dining room. However, the light also finds its way around the glass and creates a diffuse lighting atmosphere that is very cosy.

The creator of this attractive hanging light, Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984), who also attached great importance to daylight in his architectural designs, created the VL45 Radiohus hanging light for the Danish Broadcasting House.

In the mid-1940s, the VL45 Radiohus was the first light by Lauritzen to be included in the Louis Poulsen lighting range. Many more lights by Vilhelm Lauritzen were to follow in the 1950s, as Lauritzen, a true functionalist who also attached great importance to aesthetics, was in line with the standards set by Louis Poulsen.
