VL45 Radiohus hanging lamp – a wonderful opal glass designer light
The homogeneous shape of the lovely lampshade, which is made of hand-blown opal glass, makes the VL45 Radiohus hanging lamp a light source and a decorative element suitable for many rooms even when switched off thanks to its simple beauty. The lampshade features an opening in the centre of its base, so the light is directed downwards in a targeted fashion. The result is even lighting, ideal for above a table in the living room or dining room. The light also escapes through the glass to create a subtle lighting atmosphere with a cosy feel.
The creator of this attractive hanging lamp, Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984), who placed great significance on daylight in his building projects too, created the VL45 Radiohus hanging lamp for the Danish broadcasting house.
In the mid-1940s, the VL45 Radiohus was the first light by Lauritzen to be included in the range of the lighting company Louis Poulsen. In the 1950s, it was followed by many other lights by Vilhelm Lauritzen. Lauritzen was a real functionalist who set great store by aesthetics and valued them as highly as Louis Poulsen.
