With touch dimmer: LED table lamp Planet by Tokujin Yoshioka
The most striking thing about Kartell’s designer table lamp Planet is its sparkling and glittering light which casts a spell over the surrounding area with an attractive looking play of light. You would hardly believe that this effect is not produced by crystals but rather by a lampshade made of plastic. The challenge which Tokujin Yoshioka faced when designing this light was to create a sparkling lighting effect without crystals. Together with Kartell, the company known for its designer pieces made of plastic, the designer constructed a number of prototypes until the resin from which the lampshade is made was modelled in such a way that it produced the desired crystal effect.
Kartell’s best-known designer pieces include, amongst others, the children’s chair K 1340 and the lemon squeezer KS 1481. From the lighting division, the model 4006, created by Achille and Piergiacomo in 1959, and the Tic Tac series, which was created in 1970, ensure the high profile of the company. Many of Kartell’s designer pieces have not only won various design awards, but can already be admired in museums in spite of their relatively young age.
