With crystal effect: LED table lamp Planet - Design by Tokujin Yoshioka

Designer Tokujin Yoshioka asked himself whether a lampshade made of a modern plastic material could produce just as sparkling a lighting effect as a crystal shade when he designed his new series of lamps for the Italian design company Kartell. The Planet model, as he later called this design, required elaborate experiments with the synthetic resin resin. For only when this is processed in such a way that different material thicknesses come into play can a glittering effect be achieved. The result of the many experiments can be admired in the Planet LED table lamp. When switched on, it emits a sparkling and glittering light image that resembles that of a crystal lamp.

The company Kartell, based in Milan, is known for its designer pieces made of plastic, including furniture and household goods as well as lamps. The development of lamps started with the model 4006 by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni in 1959. Another classic lamp is the series Tic Tac, which was created in 1970. Many of the designer pieces by Kartell have not only won various design awards, but can now also be admired as modern classics in museums.
