Can the back be put into a wall and the front flush as much as possible considering the design..as opposed to the box being nailed to the wall and sticking out.

Thanks for asking.
It isn't possible to mount this within a wall unfortunately, because the top front section flips open right above the lock mechanism, and mounting within a wall would thus hinder the box from opening.
